Old Mahabalipuram Road popularly known as Rajiv Gandhi Salai or IT Corridor is an important road in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a six-lane project that encouraged real estate growth along it that was motivated by IT industry. It connects the Madhya Kailash temple and Mahabalipuram ending east coast road.  It is also a state highway-49A.  This corridor is a hub to many IT Companies. With beautiful landscaping and long smooth stretch, this aspiring six-lane project is gained popularity in the beginning but lost its sheen soon due to delays and is still in the making. Some important places like Padur, Mahabalipuram, Nevalur, Tharamani & Perungudi are located along this stretch. The IT Corridor project was started by the government of Tamil Nadu to encourage an IT-friendly image of the State.  It is a well-planned initiative by the government with a total right way of 41meters in its phase-I which was followed by starting of toll collection for Phase-I.  The Phase-II, however, took a little longer and it was only in 2011 that the work on the stretch to Siruseri to Mahabalipuram started. The IT Corridor is a hub for a lot of BPOs and IT Companies like HCL, Accenture India, WIPRO, Hexaware Technology and INFOSYS.  The Corridor is also lined on its periphery by a number of educational institutes like Chennai Mathematical Institute, Asian College of Journalism, Hindustan College of Engineering and a few other technical institutes.  The Corridor is also lined by a number of real Estate activities like construction of companies and townships. The OMR mushroomed the emergence of real estate and made the corridor more interesting for the investors from all over the country.
