Kankaria Lake is a historic and vibrant landmark located in the Maninagar area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Originally constructed in 1451 by Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II, the lake was initially named "Hauj-e-Qutb" and served as a royal retreat. The central island, known as Nagina Wadi, houses a garden and the Ghattamandal summer palace, accessible via a tree-lined walkway. Over the centuries, the lake has been a favored leisure spot for rulers and locals alike. Held annually in the last week of December since 2008, the Kankaria Carnival is a week-long festival celebrating the culture and heritage of Ahmedabad and Gujarat. The carnival features cultural programs, art exhibitions, amusement rides, and various performances by local and national artists. It attracts millions of visitors each year, contributing significantly to the local economy and cultural landscape.
