An Overview
This is a locality which includes multiple small localities like Sharada Colony, Shiva Nagar, Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) Colony, Dasarahalli, Kamalanagar, Kamakshipalya, Basaveshwara, Nagapura and Saneguruvanahalli. It is a layout formed by the BDA or Bangalore Development Authority. It has several parks and playgrounds out of which the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium is the famous one. This stadium is built in place of the Dasarahalli Tank. Basaveshwara Nagar is all popular for the 400 year old The Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Aalada Mara) which died in the year 2009 due to a crack in the middle of the tree. It was home for monkeys and birds, both native and migrating.
