Pulhal is a Northwestern residential town in the Chennai district of Tamil Nadu, India. Pulhal situated on the shores of Pulhal Lake. Pulhal Central Prison is well-known in the town. The site is one of 163 designated areas (megalithic sites) in Tamil Nadu. In ancient times, the territory was ruled by a Kurumbar ruler known alternately as Kamunda Kurumba Prabhu and Pulhal Raja, who is also attributed with constructing a royal fort on this spot. The Chola ruler from Thanjavur later conquered the fort and the area.
