MANDEVELIPAKKAM

Mandaveli (sometimes spelt Mandavelli or Mandavelipakkam) is a Chennai neighbourhood. It is also known as Mandavelipakkam in Tamil, where "Mandhai" means "herd of cattle" and "Veli" means "grassland." Mandaveli is near to the Mylapore neighbourhood. It is bounded to the north by Mylapore, to the east by Santhome (and MRC Nagar), and to the south and west by RA Puram. It gets its name from a literal translation of cow rearing "mandhai" meaning "herd" and "veli" meaning "open space" in Tamil. Alwarpet surrounds it on the west side.
