Gajuwaka, Visakhapatnam

Gajuwaka is a large and important suburb (mandal) of Visakhapatnam, known for being both a bustling residential area and a commercial hub. It was merged into the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) in 2005. With a population in the hundreds of thousands, it is one of the most densely populated and industriously active areas in the region. Gajuwaka has one of the highest per capita incomes in Andhra Pradesh, largely because of its proximity to heavy industries such as the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, HPCL, and Gangavaram Port. Over the years, Gajuwaka has evolved into one of the biggest shopping districts by revenue in the state. It hosts many retail outlets, food courts, malls, and jewellery showrooms. The area enjoys solid transportation infrastructure—national highways (NH 16 / AH 45) pass through, it is quite close to Visakhapatnam airport (≈ 8 km), and there are well‐connected road and bus services to other parts of the city.
