Pallavaram was originally known as Pallava Puram and it is a residential locality located in the Chennai Metropolitan city area. It was initially an important centre during the rule of the Pallava dynasty. Later on both the Mughal Dynasty and the British Empire used Pallavaram as their cantonment area and thus Pallavaram was always politically important. This place is renowned for the cantonment and lively residential colonies in the area. Pallavaram can be accessed by the Pallavaram railway station which is a part of the Chennai Suburban railway network. Pallavaram lies in close proximity with the Chromepet Railway station and the MIT campus.
