Beliaghata, also known as Beleghata, is a prominent neighbourhood located in the central part of Kolkata, West Bengal. Situated within the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, it encompasses wards 33, 34, 35, and 36. The area is well-connected to various parts of the city, making it a significant residential and commercial hub. The history of Beliaghata dates back to the early 18th century when the East India Company acquired the right to rent 33 villages from the Mughal emperor Farrukhsiyar in 1717. Beliaghata was one of these villages, known collectively as Dihi Panchannagram. Following the fall of Siraj-ud-daulah, the last independent Nawab of Bengal, the East India Company purchased these villages in 1758 from Mir Jafar and reorganised them. In 1889, Beliaghata was incorporated into the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
